The Salem China Company was founded in 1898 by six gentlemen: Patrick & John McNicol, Daniel & Cornelius Cronin, and William & E. J. Smith.  In 1918 they were acquired by F. A. Sebring, (Sebring Pottery Company, founded by the Sebring brothers in 1887), who continued manufacturing under the Salem name until 1967.  Starting in 1968, it remained in business as a sales and distribution company, distributing: Corningware, plus crystal, flatware, and teapots made by James Sadler Company.
